Paid Time Off (PTO)

Use PTO for vacation, sick time or other personal matters. Full-time employees working 30 or more hours per week start accruing PTO immediately upon hire (prorated for 30 to 40 hours per week). Part-time employees working less than 30 hours per week do not receive PTO.

Accrual Schedule
Length of Service Per Month (Semi-Monthly Payroll) Per Pay Period (Biweekly) Annual Accrual and Cap Negative PTO Allowance
Hire through 2 complete years 10 hours 4.615 hours 120 hours (15 days) Up to 40 hours
3rd through 9th year 13.33 hours 6.15 hours 160 hours (20 days) Up to 80 hours
10th year and beyond 16.66 hours 7.69 hours 200 hours (25 days) Up to 12 hours

Once you reach your annual cap, you stop accruing until your balance falls below it.

Requesting PTO
  • Request PTO in ExponentHR and from your manager as far ahead as possible, at least 4 weeks in advance. Requests are generally granted based on business needs; seniority may decide overlapping requests.
  • On-air talent and brand directors need approval from the Director of Content or Market President for PTO during the spring or fall ratings periods.
  • Non-exempt employees use PTO in 1-hour increments; exempt employees in 4-hour increments. The maximum in a row is 40 hours unless approved in advance.
  • Your balance can’t go below negative 40 hours unless you’re on an approved leave of absence.
Carryover and Leaving Townsquare Media

Unused PTO doesn’t carry over and is forfeited at year-end, except you may carry over up to 40 hours if you are expecting a baby in the first half of the year and aren’t eligible for post-pregnancy pay, or have a scheduled medically necessary procedure requiring more than a week off in the first half of the year (documentation required). Unused PTO is not paid out at termination unless state law requires it. State laws may override parts of this policy.

Bereavement Leave

If a member of your immediate family passes away, you receive up to 5 paid days off (up to 8 hours per day), in addition to any PTO you choose to use. For extended family, you receive up to 3 paid days.

Immediate family includes your spouse or domestic partner, children, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, siblings, and step-relatives and in-laws. Extended family includes aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Part-time employees scheduled 20 or more hours per week with a set schedule receive a prorated amount. Tell your supervisor about your leave and expected return; you may be asked for evidence of your loss. Additional unpaid time may be taken with your supervisor’s permission.

Volunteer Time Off (VTO)

Full-time employees receive three half days each year to volunteer with their favorite organizations or charities, after 90 days of employment.

  • Request VTO in ExponentHR (select VTO from the time off drop-down) at least two weeks in advance.
  • Manager approval and proof of participation are required.
  • VTO does not affect your PTO, resets each year and does not accrue.
Post-Pregnancy Pay

If you give birth or adopt a child and are the primary caretaker, you may receive paid leave that runs at the same time as FMLA or non-FMLA leave, starting on the date of birth or adoption:

2 or More Years of Service
8 weeks at 100% of salary

1 to 2 Years of Service
6 weeks at 100% of salary

To be eligible, you must have been employed at least one year and worked at least 1,250 hours in the previous 12 months. Temporary and part-time employees are not eligible. Commissioned account executives continue to receive commissions, draws or guarantees.

  • If you have voluntary short-term disability or state disability, you may use this leave to cover the waiting period and use the rest after your disability benefit ends.
  • Your insurance continues, and your usual deductions are taken from these paychecks. This pay is taxable, and PTO does not accrue during paid leave.
  • After paid leave ends, you must use accrued PTO (down to negative 40 hours) before unpaid time off.
Secondary Caregiver Pay

New parents who don’t qualify for post-pregnancy pay can receive up to 80 hours of paid time off to be with their new child.

  • You must be a full-time employee for at least three months.
  • Time off must be taken within three months of the birth and approved by your manager.
  • Enter time in ExponentHR on the Time Tracking/Leave Reporting page, selecting Secondary Caregiver Pay as the type.
  • Only two weeks may be taken in a nine-month period, with no additional time for multiple births.

Total paid time off under Post-Pregnancy Pay and Secondary Caregiver Pay combined can’t exceed 8 weeks.
